The Self Manager Hub has made a submission to a Parliamentary inquiry about how the NDIS is being run.
We have focused on a simple but serious problem.
People who self-manage their NDIS funding can have a claim rejected in the NDIS portal with no explanation. The portal may simply say “Rejected”. It does not always tell the person what went wrong or what they can do next.
This can cause real problems.
People who self-manage may need to pay support workers, invoices, and other costs. When a claim is rejected without explanation, they can be left trying to work out what happened while still having bills to pay.
We believe the NDIA should:
- explain clearly why every claim is rejected
- say whether the problem is technical, administrative or about NDIS rules
- tell people what they need to do to fix the problem
- make it easy to ask for a decision to be checked
- publish information about how many claims are rejected and why.
People cannot be expected to follow the rules if they are not told what has gone wrong.
Clear information would mean fewer delays, less confusion, and less stress. It would also help people who self-manage continue to pay for the supports they need.
The NDIS should be transparent, fair, and easy to understand. A claim should never just say “Rejected” and leave people to figure out the rest.
