Screening Your Support Workers: what you need to know when hiring
Presented by Self Manager Hub with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission
When you hire or engage your own support workers, how do you know what checks you should ask for?
Is a police check enough? What is an NDIS Worker Screening Check? When might a Working with Children Check also be needed? And how can you make sure you know if a worker’s screening status changes after you hire them?
Join Self Manager Hub and the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission for a practical workshop designed for people who self-manage or self-direct their supports.
We will take the confusion out of worker screening and explain what the different checks actually tell you, how the NDIS Worker Screening system works, and how you can use it to make informed decisions about the people you engage.
This workshop will cover
- NDIS Worker Screening Checks, Police Checks and Working with Children Checks: what each check covers, how they are different, and when they may be needed
- Why NDIS Worker Screening is different: including information that may not appear on a standard police check and how screening considers risk to people with disability
- How to get your workers screened: including the practical steps self-managers need to take
- How to check and link your workers: so you can use the NDIS Worker Screening system effectively
- Banning orders and exclusions: what they mean and how they relate to worker screening
- Ongoing monitoring: why an NDIS Worker Screening Check is more than a point-in-time check
- How to get worker alerts: so you can be notified if the screening status of a linked worker changes
- Differences between states and territories: including some of the common issues that cause confusion
- PRODA and myID: what self-managers need to know about accessing the system
- Troubleshooting: what to do if you get stuck and where to get help.
